Choropleth Map

Here is a choropleth map of Missouri that shows the percent of the total state economy that each county accounts for. The colors are very distinct and it is easy to see where the bulk of the economic activity takes place.

Dot Density Map

Here is a dot sensity map of township population of a selected slice of Ohio. It appears to be GIS generated and gives you a really good idea of the population density.

I found this map of Virginia battlefields from 1891. It was created by the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway company, perhaps to encourage people to take tourist trips on the railway. It seems that a lot of battles took place near railways. I wonder if this is because they were battles over control of the railroad or if they simply took place there because there are many towns near railroads.
